Introductory post. I'm a researcher and mother of multitudes (no really!). My original degree was archaeology then later I did an MA in social research and PhD in Sociology. I research recovering from childhood sexual abuse (CSA) both now and in the past. My posts aren't always grim!

How interesting! When I was a (traumatised) kid I used to paint eyes in flames over and over again. Thought it was just me!

Could not agree with you more.

Not so #tinyjoys was an afternoon spent at the Fitzwilliam museum. Art and archaeology. Heaven!
Roman bust. Looks like Neptune with a fabulous beard. Baboon and ?Anubis pots. The baboon is a bit disappointed in you but still loves you. Joan of Arc by Rossetti. Joan has gorgeous red hair and is holding a sword whilst clearly communing with God. The Bridesmaid by Millais. Again she has gorgeous flowing red hair and it putting something through a gold wedding ring. Maybe pomegranate? I know they loved their pomegranates.

I'll get in touch once I've read your book. 🙂

No thank you! I heard about your book and ordered it straight away. One day I want to compare the two - CSE in poverty and the 'VIP' version. Particularly the outcomes for the exploited girls.

Your book is literally right next to my screen and next to be read.

I also want to understand why a woman would run such an awful business, how the men justified what they did and how it could be ignored by the authorities for so long. Could not be more relevant today.

I'm writing a book about a woman who procured early teenage girls for rich men, including politicians and princes. It's a true story. It happened back in 1885 and I'm constantly surprised by how little has changed. The book tells the girls story, people with hopes and fears just like you. 1/2
Newspaper text says 'Social Scabs. The Higher Levels of London Permeated with Moral Leprosy. The Journal of Ma'am Jeffries and its Astounding Entries. An Appalling Record of Immorality Among the 'Better Classes' - New Yorkers Involved.'

OMG all of this.

Rape crisis centres are closing due to lack of funds. Violent misogyny is skyrocketing online and off. But gender based violence is only weaponized against migrants and trans women, never tackled and taken seriously in its own right. apple.news/AjjROSc0kSGS...

Bit late but just watched the first episode of #humans on the BBC and it's amazing how much it's all changed since I did my archaeology and prehistory degree back in the early 90's.

I have autistic kids and you know what - they are utterly perfect - exactly who they are supposed to be - just like trans and non-binary people. Diversity and difference is a good thing. When did we turn away from just letting people be? Why did we move away from celebrating difference?

Am continuing the musical education of my teenage triplets. Last week I was playing The Who and telling them about Keith Moon blowing up toilets. Today it was Folsom Prison Blues and one of the best lyrics ever 'I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.' Perhaps I should lighten it up a bit.

The new Spinal Tap film is really good. Better than expected. Might partly be the flashback to the 90's but at least I remember them unlike @mattcunnington.bsky.social
