A nice example of what @ketanjoshi.co calls Labor's "tactical fatalism" when it comes to climate change.
Labor acknowledges the threat that climate change poses, but setting a proper target *and* actually achieving it is inconceivable. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09...

A selection of Mercury front pages just since April this year. I know it's naive to expect perfectly balanced coverage, but the editorial approach to the stadium is utterly shameless. #politas

Ah, yes. This minority government in Tasmania has been famously hamstrung by making so many compromises and concessions. Instead, we need a "collaborative approach" that apparently doesn't involve compromise or concession. Incredible stuff from the Editor at The Mercury. #politas

It was also great to see a classic line from the fossil fuel lobby ("gas is a transition fuel") in Spender's response.

I know they didn't have the results when they went to print, but this is an insane Mercury front page when Nelson was called by 7:09pm, Webb is >50% on primaries and the 2CP vs Vermey could be something like 65-35. #politas

As Vote Compass illustrates, Labor and the Greens are a long way apart on most issues. In that context, "Labor wants to do progressive things but can't/won't because they hate the Greens" seems like the wrong framing. As they show us over and over, Labor just doesn't want to do progressive things.

Prior to last year's QLD state election, incumbent Greens MPs in single member electorates pretty much always increased their primary vote (+ it even held up after their retirement). It's such a shock to see that turn around, especially given the phenomenal amount of community work the QLD MPs do.

Tas Greens were targeting two senate seats at this election. They're currently on 1.14 quotas (16.2%). From your analysis, they would have needed 1.19 quotas (17%) to equal the lowest ever two-seat primary. Their best ever result (1.4 quotas / 20.3% in 2010) would be more likely to win two than not.

Their progress at picking up single member electorates at state-level has been pretty steady.

Great to see that Tomorrow Movement understands the urgency of the situation. It’s going to be 3 more years of do-nothing, status quo Labor majority government unless there’s an unprecedented push from progressive advocacy groups.

With about 6 million votes counted so far in the senate, looks like the Greens might surpass their previous national high-water mark of 13.1% in 2010. 💪💚
