The article also incorporates discussions of khipus and draws parallels between tassels and adornments sometimes found on both, where red tassels might be associated with the Inca and certify that the weights measured by the balances and information recorded on khipus were trustworthy.

We propose that balances do not always operate in a contact of exactitude and discuss how balances relate to larger principles of what it means to be "in balance" with your community.
