I quit a tenured position teaching microbiology in a previously purple but now very red state a few years ago because this type of thing was on the horizon in the administration, the state legislature, and some of the student body. I mourn what has happened in higher education.

I heard that from a different educator (I wish I could remember who it was to five proper credit), and it seemed to make sense to the students who were interested in learning.

In a former life I was a micro professor. I always told students that vaccines were like fire extinguishers: having one doesn’t mean you won't ever have a fire (infection), but it will decrease the damage caused by the fire (disease). Plus, it can keep the fire from spreading to the neighbor's house
