Fifteen years ago I was a terrified mother of a child with a rare and devastating disease, telling his story to anyone who would listen. Now I have a doctorate and I'm advising drug companies on how to harness the wisdom of everyday heroes. Thank you, Charlie, for making me an absolute badass.
I am a middle aged woman in a black jacket with blue name badge holder and glasses smiling, standing in front of the RAPS Convergence sign. The sign for my session entitled, "Data Science and Management: Strength of Collaborations for Evidence Generation To Advance Medical Product Development."

On social media I met the parent who introduced me to the doctor who saved my son's life.

Among many other things.

Yes.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

This patient-led research scorecard is worth sharing again. It outlines how to work with people with lived experience in a meaningful way, so you don't take advantage of them, inconvenience them, or otherwise behave in such a way that the collaboration and product suffer: cmss.org/wp-content/u...

I am traveling for work a lot this month. Last night I slept in the hotel bed for eight hours straight with no interruptions. I usually get four hours in a row if I am lucky before a child needs me, maybe a total of 6-7 hours in bed. I miss my kids so much but I really needed to rest.

I had a wonderful time! Thank you for the hospitality!

I recently listened to this podcast about Mengele after he fled and have been meaning to read the book written by the guest. They had a whole network down there, and some lived right out on the open without changing their names! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/d...

I live in a community with many Italian restaurants and bakeries and all I know is this must be what Heaven is like.

I was taught Egyptology in college by the late Gerald Kadish. I especially loved his tales of the Deir el-Medina artists. I'm sure I was also influenced by the King Tut craze of the 70's ("coulda won a Grammy/buried in his jammies")!

I recently did pretty well at Quince. I got a cute leather jacket and a black pleated skirt that was surprisingly flattering on my curvy-petite frame. I also like their black dolman cashmere sweater and leather-look leggings.

Cringey is right. Goodness.

Nice job with the interview! You have a natural talent for it.

Playing peek-a-boo with my guy. I can't believe he has almost outgrown his wheelchair. I'm glad I bought this one a little too large a few years back. I really like the Convaid transport chairs.

Got my flu + COVID vaccines today. So glad it is still available where I live. My arm is a little sore and it hurt a little to lift up my arm to do the dishes tonight but that's about it for side effects so far.

I put my name in and 20 articles and abstracts popped up.

It's also a chemical "don't die from a miscarriage pill" but they choose to ignore that.

I keep thinking about how my medically fragile son and so many other kids like him go to Florida for Make a Wish trips and now they are at even greater risk of getting vaccine preventable diseases during their stay.

Alice is a beautiful cat. I love the color of her fur. Does she have a favorite snack or does it rotate?

I found out that we weren't invited to a big family Labor Day picnic because people are uncomfortable to be around my disabled son. He is a teenager, big and mobile, but like an infant intellectually, so he's a handful. We always wrangle him but I guess it's a distraction. Bummed me out. :-(

This is sooo true. I am under a lot of pressure to do everything with AI. Sometimes we need to do things the old fashioned way such as manually check data quality and when I suggest this my expertise is often discounted. Their computer science degree does not replace my epidemiology degree.

Sounds familiar. They are ok with measles because it "only" kills people who are already sick or disabled. Ditto for COVID. As others said, rickets is caused by malnutrition. Besides, why is it so difficult to believe, just looking at the situation on the ground, that these people would be starving?

This reminds me of my favorite parenting quote: "behavior is communication" which I also apply at work!

Pretty soon, it became my litmus test for how racist someone was. How quickly did they mention crime upon visiting my home? How important to their view of my identity was the fact that I lived in the city of Baltimore? 8/10

Or they would visit me and look around and that's the first thing they said. Fear of getting hurt in some kind of crime. But it's not like they were reading the statistics about my neighborhood. They were just looking around and noticed that many people were not White. 7/10
