I can't say much in 300 characters. Try going to a library and checking out four or five books, and just see if any of them speak to you. Some authors think that algorithms are a branch of mathematics and their books are full of mathematical notation--I'm sure it works for some people, but not me.

As for algorithms--yeah, too meaty, too much work. Languages are more my thing. I'm working on wxPython and on R, and maybe I'll tackle Scala next.

He IS focusing on his actual business--the U.S. government. That's how he intends to make the most money.
