Arkansas losing is just the endless samsara, but i'll happily take Notre Dame losing at home to a G5 team as a treat

I didn't know him, but NeuroTribes was a hugely important book to me, and after i read that his name popped up in many many places. RIP.
Hi everyone.

Sorry to start your day with bad news. It's my very sad duty to inform you all that @stevesilberman.bsky.social , my wonderful husband and best friend, passed away last night.

I'll have more info later. For now, please take a moment to remember his kindness, humor, wisdom, and love.

Even legit expert politics commentators forget about audience segment targeting for messaging sometimes. Sure it's virtuous to correct and clarify and fact-check GOP duckspeak, and someone must. But it doesn't move the ball much. It's for the other ducks. They ain't listening to you.

Threads the app is probably going to be around for a very long time but the level of discourse over there makes Yahoo! Answers look like a Nobel prize winners conference. It's not ideological stupidity, but more like "how are you putting your pants on every morning without hurting yourself"

most of the possible VP choices being yapped about are over-replacement-value superstars in their current roles

prominent retailer lets you select a local charity for their round-up-your-purchase-to-donate, _and_ their website shows the count of customers who've selected each charity. the way Animal Aid crushes the popularity contest against homeless shelters, food banks, etc is grim

Like on a purely aesthetic level a choice between “old patriot soldiering on to beat the American fascist he despises in the core of his being” and “mostly-anonymous Ivy League nepo babies leaking gossip about how the old patriot needs to go die quietly” isn’t very hard

nothing gold can stay but getting tipsy on Genny Creams, catching a high score on Iron Maiden pinball the first time i played it and going to Great Wall Szechuan House will be on my highlight reel at the pearly gates

every residential street is too wide. in most neighborhoods you could fit a whole additional row of houses in if the streets were sized for parking one car plus one lane of traffic only. absolutely zero change in how anyone lives or how houses look. i am a crank but i'm right

something i have to give props for is every small town library has great wifi that you can access outside the building after close and they don't shit it up with broken captive portal pages. has saved my ass numerous times.

my library is open on Su and until 9pm four other days a week, and my gf's in the burbs is open until 8pm schoolnights, but tbqh "where philanthrophy cash flows like the running waters, things are as good as they were a century ago" is a poverty of expectations

media literacy, but more specifically, propaganda literacy; that is, the reflexive "oh this line is a political insert i can ignore it"

makes me wonder which of the constantly emphasized parts of mainline prot ideology ca 1990-2000, which seemed frozen from the beginning of time then, would've seemed either heretical or just kinda stupid to people in the same pews 50 years prior
It’s worth browsing Christianity Today to get a sense of this from the inside. Pastors are getting accosted by their members because they did a bog standard Sermon on the Mount sermon.

i got a bunch of "thank so-and-so for being PRO TERM LIMITS" mailers and, i know this is a low importance thing in the big picture, but sending those to me is up there for the worst issue targeting. it'd go over better if you sent canvassers around NYC preaching the good news of deep dish pizza
