I just finished Grant’s memoirs (I found much of it to be repetitive with the descriptions of battle after battle) and before that I read Battle Cry of Freedom (which was great). Is getting into Catton’s work worth it? There are so many other 800 page history books I want to read.

Iceland, San Marino, various others are argued. Then there’s the argument that it can’t be a democracy unless women and minorities can vote, or it has to be a multiparty system, and other requirements.

This seems like doomerism. Plenty of countries have higher standards of living than the USA and they didn’t need to be the global super power to do it.

Americans who are anti-Trump are totally on our own now. There will be no sympathy or help pressuring the Trump admin from abroad. These people are so enraged they simply want to blame and punish all Americans.
