Esta melodía está ilustrada por una mujer realizando una pūjā frente a un santuario, frente a un estanque de lotos. Llama la atención que asome la cabeza del interior un guepardo, tan ensimismado en la oración como ella

I’m so sorry to hear of Tom Stoppard’s passing. In 2021 I defended my PhD dissertation where I devoted part of a chapter to his Cold War play Hapgood. His intellect was unmatched. He brought a vital jolt of cerebral energy & humanity to postwar British theatre www.proquest.com/openview/47f...

If you love the intellect & excitement of theatre, you adore Tom Stoppard. I went to see a brilliant production of ‘Jumpers’ with the great Simon Russell Beale & Essie Davis in London in 2004. I took a course on Stoppard at Vassar the previous semester & seeing this play helped shape my interests.

It’s tempting to think of Sir Tom Stoppard as primarily a playwright of Britain & Europe. What’s useful to remember is his global upbringing & how it shaped his work. His childhood in Singapore & India during the war. Empire of the Sun & Indian Ink & his lifelong fascination w/the ethics of empire.

Beyoncé’s “7/11” released on this day in 2014. The video is more memorable than the song. A “GoPro feminist utopia”- it’s emblematic of the comparative innocence of the 2010s. There’s this calculated casual-ification of her popstar image. Its editing and cultivated spontaneity anticipated TikTok.

20 years on. Dario Marianelli’s score for #PrideandPrejudice became one of the most iconic ones of the 21st century. My favorite is the Purcell inspired dance sequence at Netherfield. Beyond the tumblr frenzy this film caused, Joe Wright redefined the literary adaptation for film. #JaneAusten250

The pivotal Pemberley sequence of Joe Wright’s #PrideandPrejudice 20 years on. Beautiful use of a monotone color palette in the sculpture gallery. Marianelli’s score. Highlights Elizabeth’s regret. Pemberley serves as a focal point for which all the lines of conflict are drawn. #JaneAusten250

Not only a great portrait by Gainsborough (of his nephew, Gainsborough Dupont), but in as-new condition. Once upon a time, all Gainsboroughs looked like this, but the delicacy of his technique means many have suffered over the years.
