A colleague received proofs of an accepted manuscript, and the "proofing process" clearly involved running the text through ChatGPT. Their voice has been erased, and errors introduced. This is from a supposedly reputable publisher. Anyone else been put through this particular form of hell? #MicroSky

Lots of integrative plasmids are linear. Streptomyces Ecoli shuttle plasmids (circular, often low cooy) allow cloning in Ecoli before moving into Streptomyces

Streptomyces is not suitable for chemical or electro-transformation methods

Yeah, integrating plasmids can be quite big indeed. If they contain a Tra element than they can be conjugated. This sometimes needs Ecoli strain changeover if host has a methylated DNA restriction system. Plasmids without conjugative element can be moved into Streptomyces via protoplasting

Predatory conference check Q:
Is the Global Food & Agri Summit 2026 in the Netherlands a predatory conference or is it legit?
#science #conference #predatory?
drgvank.bsky.social
Could be integrating plasmids? Streptomyces uses this a lot

A new bench at JIC in memory of Helen Kieser. She moved to Norwich with David Hopwood in the 1960s and was instrumental in establishing the Streptomyces group and Molecular Microbiology @johninnescentre.bsky.social. Hard to overstate her importance to the #streptomyces field and community.

“Writing an essay is hard because it forces you to use your brain in ways you haven't before…Your job is not to turn in completed assignments; it's to learn how to think. Turning in completed assignments can help you learn how to think, but only if you're the one who completed them.”

As always, Ted Chiang is great in this interview.
