5/ But this program is not just about receiving content. It’s about exchange.
💬 Schools will send us questions directly.
🎥 We’ll host live calls from Antarctica.
🐧 Paco the penguin will guide the youngest explorers!

4/ 📚 Every week (from Nov 12), a digital workbook will land in inboxes worldwide — stories, games & activities linking geography, history, climate & biodiversity to our mission.

3/ That’s why, with Temoins Polaires, we’re launching the ❄️ Under Antarctica Educational Program ❄️. For 3 months, children, teachers & families will follow us for free as we kite-ski across the ice.

2/ One of the main reasons
Matthieu Tordeur and I are undertaking this enormous expedition is not just for science, but to open its doors to young people everywhere. To spark curiosity & rebuild trust in science.

My collection of monthly #Arctic temperature graphics have just been updated through April 2025: zacklabe.com/arctic-tempe...

#DataViz #SciComm #OpenScience #OpenData
Graph showing monthly-mean Arctic mean near-surface air temperatures for 2025 using a red line. There is a strong seasonal cycle, with a peak during the boreal summer season. There is a long-term warming trend. The other years from 1940 to 2024 are shown with sequential coloring for blue to white. Data is from ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis. The graphic is updated through April 2025.

Now looking at a spatial view of temperature anomalies during the December to February 2025 period again highlights the relative Arctic warmth and lack of cold departures to be found anywhere outside of the central Pacific.

Data information at (NASA/GISS GISTEMPv4): data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/faq/
Global map showing surface air temperature anomalies for the December 2024 to February 2025 period. Most all areas are warmer than average, except for La Nina. Anomalies are calculated in reference to a 1951-1980 climate baseline using GISTEMPv4.

Rain in the northernmost city on Earth. This month temperatures have been almost always above normal.

The Arctic is becoming totally unrecognisable.

And in the meantime #BP and #Equinor are doubling down on fossil fuels.

Profits over people. Profits over a liveable Earth.
