This article is framed based upon a longstanding assumption that "privately owned media" are somehow NOT (as) biased or partisan as public media. In effect, however, this assumption is based upon a misreading of how actual media marketplace works. E.g. Postmedia doesn't reflect Cdn public interests.

This is the email address that I sent to the Waterloo Catholic District School Board today about the motion they are voting on tonight - on the prohibition of flying the Pride Flag & any symbols related to 2SLGBTQIA+ so that students would not know if any staff or teachers would be sympathetic.

So, if there is anybody in Ontario's Waterloo Region that is interested, you can reach out to me via the email indicated in the post: 👇

I am doing a public talk on "Is there a future for trans* people in Canada?" on Monday March 31st, the annual Trans Day of Visibility at Wilfrid Laurier University - I'm looking at some of the lines of hope that exist here amidst the growing hate pushed by the WH. www.eventbrite.ca/e/trans-day-...

"Is there a future for trans people in Canada?"

Women & Gender Studies presents the 3rd annual Trans Day of Visibility public talk at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

While the title makes the talk sound depressing, I am going to also highlight some lines of hope, too!!

Thanks for the reminder -- this is a cover of the 1993 version of Morris Beckman's book which was an excellent read!!

Also, fairly sh*te that fascists were allowed out of the woodwork so soon after the defeat of Nazi Germany & Fascist Italy!!

Can we just rename the "Nazi Salute" the "Elon Salute"?!

I love the title!! :)

I have taught a couple of courses around "Culture Wars: From PC to Woke" and "Free Speech and Moral Panics".

This semester I am teaching "The Trans Agenda"!!

I agree. I used to read lots East Euro lit, incl. Josef Škvorecký's work (e.g The Cowards & a series about a police lieutenant), and Bohumil Hrabal's (sp?) Closely Watched Trains - in many ways part of that lead-up to the Prague Spring. I loved Polish writer's Jerzy Andrzejewski's Ashes & Diamonds.

So, yesterday, I taught my first course for Women & Gender Studies (the program at my Uni where I am the interim coordinator), called "The Trans Agenda" - using the popular (?!) meme that it's "Mostly not to get murdered"!!
