I am thinking the same thing. January has been very mild in Minnesota. I would really like to see a serious cold snap in the next few weeks.

State and Federal property is exempt from property taxes in Minnesota. The state makes "payments in lieu" of taxes to local units of government. I don't know what the feds do. But that doesn't mean the law can't be changed.

I live in one of those republican-reprepresented districts in Minnesota. I can assure you that my representative will be totally fine with poor people dying. He has refused to hold a town hall since being elected.

The House just passed the "Pet and Livestock Protection Act" a week ago which would remove wolves from Endangered Species Act protection. It passed on a party line vote.

In Minnesota they are called peat fires because it is organic soil (peat) that is burning underground. They are a real PITA to extinguish even if you have good access to the site.

It took me 4 months and $80 to get a copy of my birth certificate from New York state. It was a very frustrating experience.

Always have a big garden, and freeze, can and dry the produce. Will add a couple of raised beds this year, and will try my hand at saving seeds for next year. Considering adding battery storage to my solar panels. Will start onion plants this week.
