There was a lot of #AcademicFreedom, good scholarship, and independent thought in German universities before Hitler. After Hitler had risen to power, many academics fled the country. Some resisted the Nazi regime and were persecuted. Most adapted to a new situation. Here are some examples. 1/n

There is a difference between awaiting doom and preparing to face it. Collectively.

"young people, given the choice, will find meaning in more prosocial ways. Compared to older citizens... life satisfaction for them is more affected by issues related to trust, social support and hope"

We are talking about young Canadians, people who are now approximately 20 years old. They did not have a choice 20 years ago, and the choices being made today will affect reality in 20-40 years. For them, transitioning to sustainable living is not just about climate action, but about adaptation.

"The main function of the compact is to replace such provisions of law with 'the deal'—that is, a piece of paper, signed by the university, that purports to entitle the Department of Justice, on the basis of its own 'finding,' to take away all of these 'benefits'".

I thought I'd put the administration's proposed "compact" with universities in context, so I wrote the blog post below.

It's especially for journalists covering this story!

Many details about how the compact itself works and why the administration has retreated to this strategy.
