If the weather is clear there's a chance to see a partial solar eclipse this morning in the UK, Europe, Africa and much of N.America.

Eclipse starts 9.56 AM GMT 6.13 AM EDT

DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE ECLIPSE!

This tiny primary school had the best #scienceweek #BSW25 #smashingstereotypes. This is the showcase of just the things they've done in the last week!

Agreed completely, but there's still work to be done in heathcare - leadership positions, different medical specialisms, nursing etc.

New Working Paper: Teenage boys and girls in Norway are more ideologically polarized than ever. Using data for 130,000 high-schoolers over 34 years, I find that a surge in anti-feminism among boys is driving much of the recent trend.📈

Depends very much on the country.... Japan has ~20% female doctors for example... No country has less than 25% male doctors... But *many* countries have fewer than 25% female doctors.

🎺 National Apprenticeship Week starts today!

Apprenticeships can be transformative opportunities, especially for those from less wealthy backgrounds.

We'll be highlighting the benefits of apprenticeships and why we need to boost access to them throughout this week #NAW2025 🚀

Well the award for most cowardly, boot-lickingest academic society has squarely gone to the American Society of Microbiology, who has taken down features of various non-white scientists. Absolutely pathetic behavior. Those articles are now coming up as “under review”. Truly sickening cowardice here.

Twin 2 chooses just before bed on a Friday to ask "Who was the first human to drink water? Was it in the stone age or iron age?" Normally a lovely question... But it's been a loooong week!

AI & other digital skills are important for jobs... But we call for a rethink around the computing curriculum in England to ensure it serves ALL young people. SCARI Computing recommendations here: scari.sites.er.kcl.ac.uk @peterejkemp.bsky.social @billybwong.bsky.social @mcopseyblake.bsky.social

I am not that surprised that more women quit academic publishing than men- this chimes with data showing fewer women get their papers published, grants funded if they lead them and that more women get pushed into support roles. We do need to do more to support and mentor female staff. 🧪
Who’s quitting academia? Data reveal gender gaps in surprising fields
Even in scientific areas in which women are well represented, they are up to 40% more likely than men to leave research within 20 years.
