Proud to report I’ll be starting this academic year with a promotion to Associate Professor

(non-TT, like all FT hires at my institution in the past 8 years or so)

Loved returning to @tcddublin.bsky.social last week after 22yrs for many reasons, but their “wild” spaces stand out. I bet they’re great for reducing greenhouse emissions and also helping pollinator populations. Would love to see more of that on US campuses. #environment #highered #Ireland

Congrats! How does one keep track of such metrics? I know how to track mentions, but nothing else.

So glad this work is being done. I teach so many female nursing students every year.

Plus the reading load in such programs often seems to fly in the face of accreditation guidelines for out-of-class hours, pushing students to breeze through life changing texts way too quickly to really be appreciated. Maybe things were different at Tulsa though.

There’s a lot of truth here, but even as a huge fan of liberal ed and book reading, I’m skeptical of the great books model as the sole approach. I prefer a mix of Socratic style seminar sessions with other class formats, since short lectures, in-class writing, etc are often pedagogically valuable

I’d say to contact an editor who’s higher up. I don’t think I was ever ghosted for that long but there have definitely been times when weeks would go by after I sent an email, then more weeks after a follow-up, after which I’d start asking others who work with the person what’s going on.

Interesting and hopeful, Provides insight into why my Republican leaning district in Maine keeps rejecting the MAGAs who want to slash and burn public education

Across party lines, voters overwhelmingly support a strong federal role in education generally and in research and development (R&D) specifically.

Additional findings from the poll can be found here: media.the-learning-agency.com/wp-content/u...
Americans overwhelmingly support Education R&D

75% want the federal government to fund research that identifies effective teaching strategies

72% want to increase federal education spending. (Even among Republicans, 54% support spending more.)

62% oppose Trump’s attempt to eliminate the federal Department of Education

Thanks to the Learning Agency and Renaissance Philanthropy for this polling, conducted May 2025

We have a lot of work to do. We’re either still in the Enlightenment or we’ve regressed, at least from where I’m standing in the US. I’m sure there are plenty of exceptions of course. #academicsky #philosophy #religion #politics #philsky

I wouldn’t call him a philosopher and I’m sure there were some true nihilists in the thousands of years of human history that predate him

Wrote lots of interesting stuff—that’s true—but it is inaccurate to say Western Europe was in the dark at that time.
