Third sector research by day, the German far-right by night. I like books, plants, knitting, and pretending that I'm going to start running again soon. My book on women and the AfD is due in 2026. 🖥️: https://linktr.ee/drkatwilliams

35 years ago today, the German Democratic Republic ceased to exist and its territory was absorbed into the Federal Republic. If you want to learn more about the rise and fall of the GDR on this auspicious #TagderEinheit, you can check out my new book: www.bloomsbury.com/uk/german-de...

I for one have been living a bit too deliciously recently and must return to my book next week. This chart based on motifs from the 2015 film The Witch is by thewitchystitcher on Etsy 🧶🐐
A knitted tapestry based on motifs from the film The Witch. It's made with pink and black DK yarn and depicts goats and the words "Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?"

Book update - I am now 4 chapters in and having a little break this week (and maybe next week 🤫). My next chapter will be a short-ish one about my methodological approach which I'm quite excited about. For now it's a chippy tea and maybe more knitting.

Some of my recent masterpieces 😎 the Goya chart I found on Pinterest (not sure who the author is - let me know if you do), and the other two are from the online Antique Pattern Library 📚
A knitted, albeit simplified, version of Saturn Devouring His Son by Goya in red, glittery black and cream DK yarn. A knitted tapestry of a druid-like lady cutting mistletoe off a tree in light blue and forest green DK yarn. A knitted tapestry of a Valkyrie standing in a forest with a spear and shield in pink and purple DK yarn

Nothing like laying my own hands on my own book for the first time. Literally hot off the press 🔥🔥🔥

I am also working full-time and knitting furiously in-between having my dinner and falling asleep on the sofa at 8pm.
A half finished knitted tapestry in purple and pink acrylic yarn. The finished item will depict a mythological lady, possibly a Valkyrie, but it's hard to tell from the pattern tbh. Pattern is from the online Antique Pattern Library.

Hi to all new followers 👋 I'm not on here much atm but I'm squirreling away behind the scenes ✍️ I've just started the 4th chapter of my forthcoming book, and Julius Schneider and I are finalising our book chapter on the AfD's manipulation of crime stats for an exciting new volume due in 2026 😎

Some of my recent projects, all based on charts by saylessknits except the goats from WitchWolfWeb Creations on Pinterest 🧶
Two knitted tapestries, one is of Pinhead from the Hellraiser films, and the second is a quote from Milton's Paradise Lost - "better to reign in hell than serve in heaven." A knitted swatch with two pink goats facing each other and a white background A knitted tapestry based on Dante's Inferno with skull, rat, spiral, tree, and staircase motifs. The background is cream and the details and patterns are blue.

It's Friday, I'm now on A/L, and I've just finished this bad boi. Mistakes were made but happy that it's legible overall ✌️⛓️ will block eventually (as in soak in water and dry to relax the tension in the stitches)
A knitted colourwork tapestry featuring Pinhead from the Hellraiser films and a couple of chains, for good measure.

📣New review📣

@drkatw.bsky.social reviews Alex Charnley and Michael Richmond's (@sisyphusa.bsky.social) 'Fascism and the Women's Cause', reflecting on the how tenets of women’s rights and agency are central to contemporary attempts to reinvigorate fascism.
