(2/2) The writing was on the wall for Crucial already, with the old Ballistix DRAM line being discontinued in 2022. Micron was always unsure about how to treat Crucial since many people didn't know Micron was the parent company, which led to brand confusion.

While I'm not happy about Crucial being stopped, I should still note that it's just the consumer branding, not the chip supply, that is being discontinued. Micron DRAM and NAND are still being sent to 3rd party producers like Adata or Kingston. (1/2)

My guess is it's a variant of high density polyethylene (HDPE) closed cell foam with very small cells. It's usually used in these applications for support and impact absorbance.
