In the in side of the coverlet (?) I kept this business card. On the back I wrote the wavelengths of the main mercury emission lines, very handy for quick calibration of spectrophotometers using fluorescent lighting as a source

My old 1990 scientific calculator had its one and only battery change 35 years after I bought it, but, alas, the sticky zero button is now totally non functional. Farewell, old friend. We did great science together.

The neck has too much relief, truss rod missing it’s nut I think too, but more importantly the headstock itself is bent upwards from string tension resulting in the back angle from a string to the but being too shallow (D & G have a string tree). Also wood worm! Lots of wood worm holes!

Who knows anything about vintage Höfner bass guitars? As far as I can tell, this is a model 182 from 1961 or 1962. It’s still covered in leatherette. Electronics work (mostly). Neck may not be salvageable but we’ll see.

Well, yes, but also no. The words calm, peaceable, moderate, remind of the passage below from Doctor King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail”. To wish merely for times past when white citizens could comfortably ignore racism is not good enough. Racism is after all our problem to stamp out.

My approach to getting synthetic "realistic" sounding drums is the VST plugin in my DAW triggered by a Midi Controller with pads that I can finger drum with. Yes, there is a bit of a learning curve in the initial setup but after that it's plug and play. See alt text on the photo for details...

A friend of ours gifted us the Lego Harry Potter Diagon Alley set, but he sorted all the pieces by color, which is such a pain!! Normally, lego gives you neat little numbered bags with the next pieces you need to progress. Here we have search through everything to find anything! 🙃

Hey #birdsky, any help identifying a hawk? This was taken last summer in western New York near Buffalo. I know Cooper’s hawk and sharp-shinned hawk are difficult to tell apart, but does that look like big head (Cooper’s) or a ‘normal sized head (sharp-shinned)?

What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

(I've gone for two because I can't leave either one out).

Hi MsGrumpyBunny, could you please stop using copy/paste text code? It doesn't display correctly for everyone, I see letters replaced with blocks of horizontal lines. It can cause issues for the visually impaired using screen readers. This screenshot shows how I see your thread...

Huge thunderstorm in Paris tonight, we had 65 km/h wind gusts sustained winds of over 35 km/h. The rain was so heavy visibility was down to maybe 50 yards. Other than the giant hailstones we saw a few weeks back, this was the most Violent storm I’ve seen on 25 years living here.

Not uncommon. I've spent much of the last 30 years wondering why but nobody has an answer. It's just what low E strings are like on some guitars. We spend so little time at 12th fret or above on the low E string it's not usually problem. The other saddles will usually be in a stepped pattern.
