What technology does better, let it do - scoring tests, automating tasks, organizing information, direct instruction. What teachers do better, let them do - feedback, assistance, relationships, mentoring. Effective #EdTech use can open up space for more human interaction.
If you're at #VSTE25, come check me out on Monday, December 8th during the 8:30am session. Let's have a conversation about AI Abuse, the pitfalls of using AI detection tools, and human-centered strategies for dealing with AI abuse.

This is very fitting for today. Celebrate not having to have students in class on Nov. 1!

In an age of compromised passwords, data leaks, and cyberattacks, creating and using secure passwords has become more important than ever before. I have created a free and simple secure password generator that is easy to use and gives you full control over it: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
Google Sheets: Sign-in
Access Google Sheets with a personal Google account or Google Workspace account (for business use).

Uncomfortable Thought: If we're trying to keep cell phones out of the classroom, we probably need to rethink using QR codes in education. They're much more difficult to use with laptops/Chromebooks. Links, including shortened redirects (bitly, tinyurl, etc.) are better in phone-free contexts #EDUSky

Interesting discussions happening about phones in school/phone-free schools at #VSTE24

So far I'm enjoying the feel of the community here - definitely a lot more like the networking that used to happen before the previous place went toxic. I'm hoping this will become a safe haven for educators and others who want to get back connection and community without the toxicity. #EduSky

I’ve been preaching this for years. EdTech used effectively can be very powerful and beneficial for learning and instruction. Ineffective use - overuse, misuse, dog-and-pony shows - is harmful. Let EdTech open up space for more human interaction rather than filtering it out. #EduSky
EdTech and genAI often feel like people decided “if you can’t beat them, join them” was a good idea and threw away everything we know about child development, learning, and neuroscience. Some EdTech is good. Some really popular EdTech and genAI is awful. #EduSky

So that transition time took longer than expected. Still rebuilding the network, but I’m pumped to see more people here now.
