Today, we have an Oppostion day debate, but what are they?

Opposition days are days allocated in the House of Commons for the discussion of subjects chosen by the opposition (non-government) parties. There are 20 days allocated for this purpose per session (under Standing Order 14).

Across Hinckley and Bosworth, North West Leicestershire, and the entire country, we pause to remember the bravery and sacrifice of our Armed Forces and service personnel who gave their future for our freedom.

We will remember them.

Last week I reiterated the importance of distinguishing between challenges with mental health and mental wellbeing.

As I have said before, a rough road isn't the same as a collapsed bridge. Both slow you down, but one stops you entirely.

Thank you to all who came to Remembrance Sunday in #marketbosworth to remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Well done to the RBL and all the organisations who came together so beautifully.

We will remember them.

Good to visit another new business yesterday and hear how they are growing from strength to strength after the first year.

The team share such strong community ethics, are passionate about helping people across our area and improving fire safety for everyone.

Wonderful to hear how well they have been supported by the community after opening in August.

We discussed some of the challenges of opening a small business, I wish the very best of luck to Oliver and John and anyone else starting that journey!

It was interesting to hear about Oliver’s career journey and what drove him to open the clinic, and discuss the aesthetics industry and cosmetic regulation more broadly - something I’m interested in both from a medical perspective and my work on body image.

The Government's National Insurance rise is having a dramatic impact on the hospice sector.

The Government will argue it has given £100m to the sector, but this is CAPITAL FUNDING ONLY.

A huge congratulations to Hinckley Sea Cadets for their bonfire & fireworks evening!

The rain made a fleeting appearance, but fortunately not during the fireworks themselves!

People from across Hinckley came for the event - a huge well done, and I hope it raised a lot of money!

Good to speak at the @newstatesman1913.bsky.social Future of Healthcare conference on Tuesday as part of my role as Shadow Health Minister.

A positive cross-Party discussion on 'Prevention first: How can we tackle the root causes of poor health?'

Men’s and boys’ health is something I’ve been working on since I was first elected.

As I say here, men’s and women’s health is an “and” issue, not an “or” issue.

Brilliant to see the recently renovated classroom thanks to proceeds from generous donations at the Congerstone Summer Ball - well done to all involved.

And a special thanks to the pupils for their many varied and wonderful questions!

Last week I visited Congerstone Primary School to meet Miss Lawton, the new Headteacher, and Mrs Smith, the Chair of Governors 🏫

It was a pleasure to stop by each class to see what the pupils were working on.

Last night I asked the Security Minister a simple question: does he believe China has spied, or is spying, on Parliament?

The mist lifted just enough to join Oakthorpe Donisthorpe & Acresford Parish Council for their hugely successful #AppleDay in the orchard.

Loads of people from all ages enjoying all that apples have to offer! Well done to the community for a great event.

Honoured to pick out the raffle tickets and congratulations to the many winners, but even more so to the organisers and gift donors - I believe over £2000 has already been raised!

Great work!

Rounded off Tuesday with a Youth Sport Trust panel discussion on how we can encourage younger people into sports and the importance of community facilities in achieving this.

It was good to touch on the health benefits, including to our mental wellbeing, of being active.

Thank you to @fullfact.org and @shoutoutuk.bsky.social for inviting me to take part in the ‘Future Focus’ panel.

It was a wide-ranging discussion on everything from social media and misinformation, to votes at 16, housing, the triple lock and even cats 🐈

We know social care is so important.

Tuesday morning’s discussion focused on how to best serve families and Local Authorities with provision while managing spiralling costs.

As you might expect, lots of questions around the Casey review, which is expected in 2028.
