Mathematician, educator and geek. He/him.
I think it would be within the capabilities of most of us to alter the two lines you're thinking of to any other lines of dialogue which would not seem out of place or an obvious replacement for them.

Only if the Fonz is riding the bike.

Hold on, what if you sit on a motorbike which is in a small boat, but come ashore by jumping the bike over the last metre of water?

An important legal question. What if someone were to hide in a kayak being transported by air?

This week's Showstopper Challenge is to bake something that we can show on prime time TV but which, when photographed at the correct angle, will trigger the Adult Content warning on a social media site of your choice.

It's a testament to baking that Bluesky's moderation thinks a breadmaker kneading some dough is explicit sexual content that needs a warning...

I love that last one, anyone who knows how to draw an ellipse will get a 💡 - I know I did, as I have never thought of it that way before!

Nice that they kept the evil sodomites separate at the execution lest their mere presence contaminate the souls of the other criminals being hanged... 🤦

The glasses or the coworker?

Definitely in the top ten strangest forms of transport I have ridden in.

Reminds me of the standard term among Manchester student lettings companies, where anything advertised as "near Rusholme" meant it was in Moss Side (which, for those unfamiliar with Manchester neighbourhoods, has a rather less than salubrious reputation)

You should probably listen to your own advice. We both know you wouldn't last five minutes living below an underpass.
November 26, 2025 at 9:05 AM
Wow, that is embarrassing, but TBF "Lembit should be LD leader" is absolutely awful and likely to stick in your memory, unlike the far more innocuous things Farage has forgotten, like "Hitler was right".

You're far more restrained than I could be. I might have managed to subdue my laughter around 5 minutes after they got off the train.

Lovely, looks like it's going to need some complicated trig and it turns out to be super simple.

Even the possibility of a different mechanical interpretation encourages a descriptive reason for applying the default mechanical effect.
November 24, 2025 at 9:31 PM
TBF, done well even a mechanical system like D&D can have some interest added, with a dramatic description of a big hit or missing at a crucial point, but it's even easier to fall into unadorned arithmetic with a system that always has the same game-mechanical outcome for any given roll.
November 24, 2025 at 9:30 PM
Even the advantage and threat interpretations of the many systems that include those sorts of mechanics (when it's something other than e.g. strain arithmetic or bouncing boosts) give a bit more interest to the game system talk than just "hit for 7 damage".

Not only are libraries free as others have noted, borrowing from them also pays the author. Not as much or as directly as buying a book, but more than pirating.
