This is just factually incorrect. When socialists have taken power, in every single instance rights for marginalized people drastically improved. The GDR was arguably the best place in the world to live as a trans person in the 1980s. The USSR had women leading their nuclear programme at the time when women in the USA couldnt even get credit cards, and women in canada weren't even considered "people" by the federal government yet. Gay rights in Cuba in the 80s were far ahead of the west, with state sponsored media showing gay romances front and center in positive, affirming ways as a concerted effort to end the social stigma around homosexuality, all while in the west we were still laughing about men in dresses in our comedies well into the 2000s. When socialist revolutions swept through Africa, the rights of the indigenous african people there such as in Mozambique or Burkina Faso, were monumentally improved, not just on the matter of political equality as was attained in non-socialist decolonized nations, but on the matter of *economic* equality, too. The USSR under Lenin & Stalin had massive campaigns to help bolster the rights of non-russian people in the USSR such as with the inclusion of the soviet of nationalities, which was only one step down in terms of political power from the outright supreme soviet. It wasn't until Kruzchev and later Brezhnev (both revisionists) took over that the 'russification' of local names and languages really began.

Were rights for all marginalized people in all socialist states perfect all of the time? Absolutely not, but that's a total false equivalence. The point is that after socialist revolution, the rights of marginalized people MASSIVELY improved compared to pre-revolution, and despite many socialist nations being significantly underdeveloped economically compared to western counterparts, they were far more developed in terms of social liberties and equalities than the capitalist states in the west were. tl;dr, socialists don't want to just religiously uphold state power, we want to use it as a means to abolish capitalism as a global system, but the masses must ultimately still wield the political power at the end of the day specifically to prevent things like revisionism from taking root.

it really doesn't wanna get into this debate again but like, how exactly do you propose that you are to fight against a world-spanning structure of state power while also dis-empowering yourself

the whole point of socialism is to wield state power *until* capitalism is abolished as a world order, surrendering power sooner than that would only mean opening yourself up to full assault by the forces of capitalism with no means to defend yourself

those socialist states were never disestablished and gave way into stateless communist societies because it wasnt *safe* to do so. if the USSR dissolved as a state in the 1960s to pursue the communist dream, then NATO would have just... rolled right over them and restored capitalism the very next day; same with china, dprk, etc

the solution that socialists propose - not to say this is the objectively correct one, but just to ensure our point isnt being misconstrued - is not that we have to just religiously uphold state power, but that we have to use state power as a means to defend the revolution against the state power which *will* be used by our enemies, because in anything short of a world-wide overnight, peaceful revolution (which will simply never happen), then any socialist state will have to defend itself from counterrevolutionary forces. HOWEVER, said socialist state also has to continue in no uncertain terms an intensification of class struggle throughout its entire existence.

the lack of this intensification of class struggle has been the main stumbling block in the USSR and especially in the PRC. the great proletariat cultural revolution in China was perhaps one of the best examples of a far left, mass-led campaign of political agitation, it was very explicitly going *against* the CCP, as it was believed by the masses that the party was becoming counterrevolutionary, and so the masses used their own political power to critique the party and bring about change. this was only possible due to the widespread political agitation, socialist education, and intensification of class struggle that had been done in china post revolution. were it not for the GPCR, the dengist restoration of capitalism may have happened even sooner than it did irl. the issue here was not the state power, but the fact that the masses did not continue to organize and agitate for longer. in the USSR, the lack of prolonged class struggle following the end of WW2 meant that the masses were significantly under-educated on matters of political understanding of theory, and so when the rightists under Kruzchev begun the path towards social imperialism and the whittling down of the socialist system in the USSR, the masses did not wage any sort of widespread opposition to this because they had not been sufficiently educated to oppose it.

the state power in these cases did not just magically 'become bad' or fail to serve the interests of the masses; instead it was a specific, identifiable and correctable mistake that was made, and as we saw with the historical example of the GPCR, if this mistake were to be remedied, it will actually meaningfully impact how the dynamic of a socialist state functions. if that intense class struggle that allowed for the GPCR was to continue throughout the whole existence of a socialist state, then it has no doubt in its mind that when the conditions are right for said state to be dissolved to begin the transition to communism, a mass movement which is so sufficiently educated and learned will have no issue whatsoever in organizing to ensure that that is done, and if the state actors do not permit that, then a 2nd wave of revolution; this time a communist one, rather than a socialist one, can be done instead.
