The Hope of Christmas: God Incarnate

All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). (Is 7:14 NLT) The church has wrestled with how to understand this reality since its inception: God in the flesh! The longer one thinks about it, the more wondrous the implications that emerge.

“There is a big fallacy in your train of thinking, sounds like it may have been learned at one of those institutions of 'so-called' higher learning!” This is a deflective, cheap shot that I hear frequently. Interestingly, I never promote my education in conversations; one must look at my CV, LinkedIn profile, or Academic profile to obtain that information. However, this raises an interesting question that some have actually asked and others have skirted around.

It’s a weak argument that depends on a lie Mr President. Weak, but horribly consequential. I advise you to stop watching TV and return to reality.

A friend of mine heard I wanted to read something by Kierkegaard, so he sent me these. Wow, it’s amazing to have friends who love lavishly.

Y’all, this picture was taken in 1938.
In 1938 the CEO to worker pay ratio was about 20:1.
Today, it’s estimated to be 344:1.

Unintended Consequences
Unintended consequences, even the best approach to decision making, run the risk of creating harm for constituents and stakeholders that was not foreseen. I’ve been involved in business, nonprofit, and social groups for over 50 years, and I’ve observed a correlation between the way decisions are made and the extent of damage caused by their unintended consequences. First, the degree to which key stakeholders have limited input directly corresponds to the intensity of damage and toxicity generated by the unintended consequences of a decision.

The Trump administration dove to another low in their military action in MacAuthur park LA using our tax dollars to breakup a Children’s day camp. Enough of this! This isn’t immigration enforcement it’s intimidation.

President Trump’s attack and dismissal of his own security apparatus needs to be resisted. Where is congress?
June 22, 2025 at 2:53 AM
Some declare Trump is sent by God, if so he is a tool of judgement not deliverance, of oppression not liberty, of cruelty not compassion. He visits on us the reflection of our history - our own deeds are our undoing. I lament and repent as a follower of Jesus, God have mercy.

If only we had a government more concerned with the common good, healthcare, and flourishing economy instead of expensive posturing, brinkmanship, and self aggrandizement. In the mean time I watch those who know Jesus working to ameliorate suffering, hunger, fear, and sickness. That’s awesome!

Watching how the president responds to criticism is a lesson for leaders on how NOT to respond. Don’t escalate tension, listen, provide and observe context, and adjust your approach - that is good leadership. Typing screeds on social media isn’t leadership it’s whining.

I took time to hangout with one of my good friends after traveling to Coquille, OR for a board meeting. It’s always good to catch up on what life is throwing our way and what we are thinking as a result. Faith at work via reflection and vulnerability!

I’ve seen broken people, emotionally and/or physically battered, marginalised, oppressed, and economically disadvantaged - I’ve also seen what happens when they encounter Christ and experience deep change, a real hope, and a loving community. That’s good news!

Nonprofits benefit from the use of PESTLE Analysis in planning to gain visibility on the environment overall by assessing the Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental factors which is especially important in times of uncertainty that demand an adaptive approach.
