After years of working with Quarto, I've refined a set of editor settings that significantly improve document editing efficiency.
My latest blog post shares these battle-tested configurations.

The elves changed the password, and I had to do modular arithmetic to get into the North Pole.

My graphic for Day 1. My revised R code solutions are in alt text (thank you to @thoughtfulnz.bsky.social for the suggestion).

I'm working on making a graphic or something of how I thought about the solution (or just an art piece, we'll see).

I've been an #RStudio user since grad school and somehow missed that they released Positron! I knew the company rebranded to Posit in 2022, but I'm just now catching up on the IDE news. Time to explore. #RStats
Considering a new IDE for your data science work? ✨
Explore Positron, our IDE for #RStats and #Python! We have migration guides to help you migrate from:

➡️ VS Code & ➡️ RStudio

We’re also working on a guide for Jupyter users! What else would you like to see? Let us know!

Attempting #AdventOfCode 2025 after a long hiatus from 2021! Language and IDE: #R + #RStudio. I might also write about it on my Substack. I made a template for this year, but we'll see how long the clean code lasts once midnight hits 😅 (Currently sick and typing this horizontally. Hydrating though!)
The first #AdventOfCode 2025 puzzle comes out in about five hours! What's your plan? What language(s?!) are you using? What's your IDE of choice and why is it Vim? Do you have a comfy chair? Did you check out the beta release of Lua 5.5? How much sleep have you gotten? Drinking enough water? 🌟 ❤️ 🎄

Hello, friends! After 10(!) years of #AdventOfCode, I've made some changes to preserve my sanity: there will be 12 days of puzzles each December (still starting Dec 1) and there is no longer a global leaderboard. Read more:

US currently well on the way to full-blown authoritarianism....it looks like.
🧵DISMANTLING DEMOCRACY

I've been keeping track of Trump actions - now up to 192. Here, I dig into 69 actions specifically targeted at undermining democracy, rule of law & suppressing dissent.

It's been 12 weeks of assaults on democracy.

I have begun the GARGANTUAN task of updating my GitHub profile with my portfolio, "better" updates of my previous (very hastily written) code, all my notes/code/stuff I think might be useful for public consumption, etc.

Trying to make myself "known" in the programmer space. It's weird. *shrugs*

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

the transmasc community is very white American centered so I often feel extremely alienated. a lot of the art I made and my dysphoria came from the idea that I couldn't look like a white Twink. my gf helped me realize that I could be black and cute and desirable and it did so much for my self image.

I wish more prominent scientists would speak out about what is happening under Trump.

Yes, there is a real threat to one's livelihood of doing so. Being a scientist has been my lifelong dream, but there's honest work I can do outside of science, and I'd rather do that than serve the current regime.
