I think about this a lot

It's why I stopped giving extra credit when I taught undergrad. I was spending too much time grading things for students who didn't need it.

That's awful. I'm sorry you have to deal with that!

*competent, not component

Should also be noted that there are healthy reasons to seek power, such as when a highly component and emotionally mature individual rightfully believes they can make a difference. The problem is that a lot of people incorrectly believe they are highly competent and emotionally mature

It depends on several factors, but a big one is personality traits. E.g., neurotic people seek power because controlling things means they understand the rules which feels safe. Antisocial people seek power because they feel fulfilled and excited by ruling over others.

Technically it doesn't. But our system only works if at least two of the three branches want the country to be functional.

Yes, and there are many others like "Oregon" that are probably indigenous words, but we don't know enough about them. You know, because we intentionally erased people's histories.

Will readily believe in anything they think will hurt people they don't like.

As a kid, my mom always sprinkled cinnamon sugar on the extra dough and baked it. She called it "frogs" for some reason. Loved it.

It'll never hold a candle to the old St. Elmo listserv, but not for lack of trying
