Johnson on nuking the filibuster: "Is it wise? A lot of people would tell you it's not. I mean, on the Republican side, I would be deeply concerned if the Democrats had a bare majority in the Senate right now of Marxist ideology taking over the Democrat Party...turning us into a communist country"

It absolutely is, and I hope we're able to use it. Reflexive anti-military bias is something I was absolutely prone to until my mom married a Guardsman who was activated for several years to do domestic logistics during Iraq/Afghanistan. I learned a lot about the different kinds of folks who serve.

In fact a lot of the NG folks are normal people pulled off their jobs (and not even getting paid!) to be dragged away for this dumb dog-and-pony show. In the "who's likely to become sympathetic/useful" constellation of ICE, police, and NG, I'm most interested in guardsmen.

Any time some of the guys with guns are annoyed at the people who are trying to harm civilians, rather than at the civilians, I'll take it.

This is very much "the enemy of my enemy is... possibly a useful ally??" kind of situation, it seems.

gotta unplug this thing and plug it back in again

This is so aggravating for many reasons, but one is professions and states MUST be allowed to regulate psychotherapy. Therapy is done via speech, but it is conduct, not just "shooting the breeze" - intended to cause specific changes and outcomes, just like administering a medication or procedure.

look the fascism will be slightly more tolerable while you're on the opioids, that's the thing

that's how they get you

hang in there

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

Core 1A speech.

With cameras rolling, they’re sniping priests for sport.

I bought a bunch of pasta at Costco in March, and I found out that my partner has been digging into the stash for supper! I was like babe, you buy more at the store while prices are normal, the stash is for when the tariffs hit! 😵‍💫

I've been involved with pushing my organization, AAMFT, to make their policies re: CT explicit and to get them to take affirmative positions on state legislation banning the practice. Now this case threatens to neuter our ability to set standards based on evidence.

v. Margaret Thatcher "I came up through sexism so other women should have to as well."

And "I worked 120 hours a week as a medical resident so we should never change anything about residency."

Wait, say more. I'm in the field so I'm extremely interested in this - in what way is she a straw plaintiff? Is it b/c she could practice as a religious counselor and not be regulated? (presumably the claim of harm is that then insurance wouldn't pay for services?)
drsaddison.bsky.social
It is against professional ethics, according to APA, ACA, NASW, and AAMFT. Thus it could be a cause for suspension of a license, and on top of that, the state has explicitly said it's unprofessional conduct. The lawsuit is b/c she wants the state to be powerless to hold her to their standards.

But as usual, they want secular money to have to pay for religious practices. Not unlike using public school vouchers to pay for religious education, which does not have to follow public education standards.
drsaddison.bsky.social
I mean, they have choices. Practice a secular profession, to secular standards, and follow the rules set by secular organizations and licensing boards, then you can access secular sources of money. OR, practice a religious profession to religious standards, then you can access religious money.

This is why mayors should be microchipped, so they can be safely returned to their (corporate) owners.

So as usual, the Right wants to have its cake and eat it too. They want to practice regulated professions, governed in part by the research and professional consensus of many experts in the field. But they don't want to have to follow the rules set for those professions. #TherapistSky
