Glorious weekend in God’s Own Country.

We’ve had a bit of a hiatus but the L5 Learning Board is back up and running after our migration/exodus from that other place.
As always the content and variety is driven by conversations with our terrific resident doctors.
And I always keep learning too.

Hmm. Sure.
The solution to this is to fund more GP places. We have a surplus of incredibly well-trained GPs waiting to join terrific GP colleagues in primary care.
Yes, look at booking systems, but BIGGER PICTURE.
HM Government should choose more wise solutions.
Every GP practice must now offer online booking
Move comes despite opposition from union, with ministers saying NHS needs to embrace digital tech.

It’s great to see the RCP working with other Colleges and Trusts to tackle this.
Good examples across the UK of hospitals with NO temporary escalation spaces or corridor care. It’s said TES use is a choice and not an inevitability.
We can do so much better.

Data from our snapshot survey earlier this year showed that almost four in five physicians are looking after #patients in temporary environments.

This was the cause of much excitement in our house yesterday. For Mrs T as a clinical geneticist looking after families with HD and myself as a PDologist thinking about the broader implications for neurodegenerative diseases. Amazing.
Huntington's disease successfully treated for first time
One of the most devastating diseases finally has a treatment that can slow its progression and transform lives, tearful doctors tell BBC.

The devil, as always, is in the detail.
That being said, Trust Boards will be anxious at the way their position in this league will be seen by patients, carers and staff.

Rehydrating and avoiding the mobs.
This always provides a safe haven.

If anyone is in need of a clever, witty, character-driven murder mystery to clear their head, I cannot recommend this enough.
It has provided several evenings of pure joy chez Thomson.

Try being a Geriatrician.

One of the largest group of physicians in the UK, and yet nary a drama or documentary about us 🤷🏻‍♂️

I might ask Channel 5 to commission one: “Geriatricians on the Edge!”
High octane. Like a phosphate enema.

Not the easiest of weeks.
Looking forward to employing some natural healing during the rest of the summer.

In the meantime I’ll get a justgiving going 😉

This is a disaster.
Sadly, an inevitable one as rates soared in Liverpool over the last few weeks.
And a preventable one. There will be more.

I can’t answer your question but I’d like to know what you’re getting for £166 a year.

I know what the GMC is getting.

This is a common theme I’m hearing.
You weren’t the only one.
It’s made me somewhat cross.
drsandythomson.bsky.social
I’ve read this well-researched and written article twice. I’d recommend it.

What makes me the most cross is the deplorable exploitation of a CBS diagnosis underpinning the whole narrative.
No way does this guy have CBS. No way. Just not possible.
