Used to be on Twitter under same title, now moved across here. Tech loving, pedal pushing, dyslexic ex-lab scientist still very much in love with knowledge, learning and being curious.

Every SUV owner will shout "but you can't tax me! I've already bought it!"

Consider that the av car age in the UK is 7yrs old. If you buy a new SUV from 1st April 2026, you pay the higher tax rate.

For all already in ownership, escalate the tax each year until 2032 till the tax rates match.

Sometimes, the solution to so many problems appears so obvious that you've got to question why it's not just implemented anyway.

Oh yeah, the car lobby and their profits. Nevermind.........

Internet to our house is down, so instead of #Spotify through mobile, gone old school. Retro awesome turned up to 11

I work in a corporate entity, with a gazillion productivity tools, AI wedge into every spare pixel possible, constant interruptions by "updates are required" and no consistency or connection between various tools. Humans are feeding a dead internet.

I'm old enough to remember when there were Windows XP service packs were released on a CD every 6 months or so....

2025 and every other day, MST, Windows, Teams, Dell all wanting to disrupt workflows with "a new update is available, your computer needs to restart"

Interesting article in the Atlantic on the changes of scientific empires and the movement of science funding and policy - history never repeats but it echoes. Worth a read.

Easily one of the best marketing campaigns I've ever seen, and soooo on point for timings and message. Chapeau! Just brilliant! #MotherFuckingWindFarms

Motherfucking wind farms…

I'm not sure I fear AI rebelling and taking over the planet, because any organised AI overthrowing is going to stumble each time MST/Office 365/Windows/Chrome needs to deploy an update.

Ok, sunrise was around 0449 so likely ambient light:

Report was the explosion was at 0444. Video appears to have light. Is this low level camera compensating for dawn light or is this a video of a separate explosion to the 0444 reported explosion? Any insights, intel or talk?
(Certainly don't think "fake" but think accuracy or reports v's images etc)

This is like a no brainer. Car normalisation in the UK can be shifted to being person centric. Changing the timings is a small change for a big behavioural boost in active transport.

This study just came out:

"the data is encouraging: there is virtually no impact on traffic, and pedestrians save a total of 1.3 hours a day at the average crossing and are 13% more likely to comply with traffic signals."

London is experimenting with traffic lights that put pedestrians first
A simple change to crossing rules is helping improve safety.

Easily the greatest persuader for switching to Linux is by getting a new #Windows11 laptop.

@mtanderson.bsky.social - (risking giving you further work!) with escalated tensions between PK and IN, has the border region on sat images seen any build up like seen in the pre-UK invasion of RU forces? Or is it all verbal and no hardware moves at this time?

Simple question I wanted to hearing being posed in the hearing; "as the claim is the information was not confidential, sensitive or needing security clearance, there will be no legal objections or prosecution of Jeff Goldberg publishing the information in full. Correct?"

I like fellow humans, they're interactive, diverse and (normally) intelligent. I like technology, it aids human development.

But seeing 90% of the internet is now about bots and AI or AI tools/training etc, The Dead Internet Theory is becoming more and more reality.

Correct, but look at the image. There are three in a row before a ferry (if there is one) in the mist. So either the ferry can't get closer and bridging or they could have had three ferries and three breachers next to each other. Volume of units on the beach is function of number of ramps landing

Any evidence of narco subs using SpaceX starling tech yet and going autonomous?? Why send a person on board when you could do the crossing to a rendezvous point off Africa and add more drugs instead.
drstav.bsky.social
Interesting that they're being used in series, not parallel. Waters shallow for a significant distance from the beach head? If they're going to be multiple per lane, that's lower landing rate and greater opportunity for disruption.

I have a creative itch, to build a project that's positive, interesting, challenging and beautiful. Something away from the clickbait doomscroll. Who's in??
