1) Venezuela: No ground troops; Regime intact; Rare earths?

Most discussion on Venezuela I've seen is missing two related obvious facts:

1=There has not been any significant American ground troops; US attacks are series of remote one-offs.

2=The Regime is still in place (theirs; also ours).

6) I haven't seen much about the other mineral wealth in Venezuela, in addition to oil, but possible rare earths might be part of the geopolitical considerations if true? As always specifics as to which which elements, where located, etc. matters; see: www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

5) A transition to true democracy, with economic and social justice for all seems to be the least likely outcome... both for Venezuela and US.

4b-continued)

...just different business interest than those they chosen to deal with up to now (China, Cuba, whomever)... but that the controlling Venezuelan government regime stays largely in place.

4b) The other most likely outcome – that both sides have already been signaling to each other – is that the existing Venezuela regime will decide that the best way forward for them is to make profitable deals with certain tRump/Rubio approved U.S. & Transnational business interests...

4a) As likely a medium-term outcome as any could be what happened after the attacks on Iran (remember them): Lots of Iranians killed... and months later... not much changed.
January 5, 2026 at 5:50 PM
3) While happily killing Venezuelans, it is clear that there is a very deliberate policy of keeping a low risk of American deaths. This is frankly a politically smart move. Meanwhile in Venezuela the existing regime seems to be completely intact and in charge.

2) One thing that has so far distinguished the tRump regime from predecessors is choosing not to use large numbers of ground troops. As in the attacks on Iran and elsewhere, it's been mostly airstrikes from afar with some limited special ops.
