Men in balaclavas set fire to a mosque in East Sussex last night. It's only appearing on the BBC's local coverage, rather than its main national headlines, despite coming just a week after the (also under-reported) firebombing of an asylum hotel in London last week

Very honoured to publish this opinion piece by Halil Ibrahim Bahar and his daughter Hacer, about the criminalisation of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
Halil wrote this piece while he was imprisoned by the regime in Ankara for his critical academic work.

Particularly honoured to be delivering the key note for the 50 years anniversary of the italian journal Studi Sulla Questione Criminale in Bologna, with friends and colleagues whose work I admire much in the audience.

Thanks to the organizers of the British Society of Criminology Midland group Symposia on politics, harm and justice for inviting me to speak about war and punitive emotions, as keynote speaker. A sad reminder of the centrality of war in criminology in these dark times.

Very important message to the media and people working within it

Even the people employed to DO the deportations don’t think mass deportation is possible (let alone moral, legal and so on)… As one of them, who I write about it my book on the escorting system, pointed out concerning the previous government’s plans to send large numbers to Rwanda:

Only 25% of Gaza detainees are identified as fighters by Israeli military intelligence.

Civilian detainees have included an 82-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s who was jailed for six weeks and a single mother who found her children begging on the streets upon her release following 53 days in prison.
Israeli military database indicates only a quarter of Gaza detainees are fighters

You are simply led by Islamophobia. Plus no one here is advocating for rape. Neither of Israeli women (during the horror of 7th October) nor of Palestinian women or men within the Israeli prisons. All these actions will need to be addressed, once the genocidaires are stopped and arrested.
