Got anything to say about the finding that supervised consumption sites reduce crime, or the decades of evidence that cops do not?

Crime rates declined over time near Toronto supervised drug consumption sites, study suggests | CBC News
A new study has found that overdose prevention sites and supervised consumption sites were not associated with overall increases in crime rates in Toronto neighbourhoods.

Here’s what Evan Solomon and Mark Carney were doing.

CBC host Evan Solomon fired after Star investigation finds he took secret cut of art deals

Medicine Hat needs to have a conversation with Saskatoon about how to run services on private dollars, like Prairie Harm Reduction. This may increasingly have to be the model until the UCP is unelected/recalled/behind bars.

We've already stopped the UCP from closing Safeworks in Calgary twice.

You can stop them a third time! 9/

What can people do right now?

Protect the remaining supervised consumption sites in AB: call your municipal reps, organize rallies, do everything people have done since 2019 to protect them!

Like everything coming out of Alberta, all of this is probably worse than it appears because of the government's unrelenting tendency for secrecy and opacity.

On that note, the Ministry FOIP office refused to give me the DORS data in spreadsheet form – I had to convert it from 44 images 😀. 7/

The Alberta government is potentially a court order away from seizing these data, according to the privacy policies of DORS and MRP.

This is particularly alarming given the new Compassionate Intervention Act forcing abstinence on people who use drugs. 6/

So what was all this app promotion by the government –– up to millions on advertising campaigns! –– actually serving?

Like My Recovery Plan, it appears that the govt sought to centralize personal data. Between DORS and MRP, the govt could now gain access to info of >10,000 people who use drugs. 5/

The government even buried a report showing that the drug toxicity crisis was rapidly swinging toward unhoused communities and that immediate intervention was necessary.

That 2021 report wasn't released until early 2025, months after I submitted a FOIP for it. 4/

Back in 2021, it was becoming clear that the crisis was beginning to impact unhoused communities far more aggressively.

People were calling for expansion of supervised consumption, instead of all this attention and over $1 million – the annual operating cost of an SCS – on an untested app. 3/
