I have a lot of books.

I’m not sure about this.

I’ve enjoyed baking bread for a sandwich of freshly cut pears, melted Brie, and a little salt and pepper.

I nodded off through much of the first half, but exhaustion has kept me from fully enjoying it.

I baked a couple of apple walnut breads to give to friends this morning at the Ferry building.

Roasted cauliflower in harissa sauce with a bit of tahini drizzled over yogurt, garlic, and salt for the base, along with avocado and Parmesan fries with homemade rustic bread.

Last loaf of the week. Came out great.

A friend introduced me to using the larger persimmons when soft, turning them into pulp, and then freezing them to make ice cream. I’ll have it with pomegranate seeds. It’s a wonderful dessert.

I’m pretty impressed with the fermentation process with yeast. I plan on sharing some of the things I learned as I go on this breadmaking journey. I grew up making bread, but I never really appreciated it until now.

I’ve enjoyed the rigor of breadmaking. There’s definitely something enjoyable about the practice and skill development in making bread.

I’ve been experimenting with different flavor combinations. This was an avocado, spinach, frozen banana with honey and yogurt smoothie.

Last day on the islands. A few photos of blue-footed boobies, crabs, and a rock outcropping in the middle of the Pacific where we saw sting rays, more sea turtles, and sharks.

The story behind the sea lion is amusing. I was on a beach this afternoon when I noticed the sea lion “nudge” the young woman off her blanket. It napped there for a good while before being chased away. The young woman handled it all with aplomb. I shared any photos I took of the experience.

So, I made a couple of new friends while on holiday. They’re likely introverts, which comes with issues, but they are calm, quiet, and don’t make much fuss.

Even though I came off the plane last night fighting a migraine, today was a fantastic first day in Quito.

I’ve been peripatetic the past few weeks, and if I’m honest, likely for the foreseeable future as I work out the next chapter in my life. But one place that I look forward to with every visit to D.C. is the Lincoln Memorial. Here are mixed photos from this and past visits.

I think this one shows my energy—the blossoming of something new.

I had an excellent start to my last-minute trip to New York for the week. Surprised at how lush and green Fort Tryon was, but given how much rain this area has received, I shouldn’t be surprised.

I’m sorry. I know the feeling. I watched from a hotel room things exploding across the skyline for hours last night while thinking it was representative of my thinking as of late
