Honored to continue to be listed among world’s top 2% of scientists.

In science there is no “I”, only “we”. Grateful to all my collaborators, mentors, and mentees whose collaboration makes this work possible.

Yes that would be even scarier and not unlikely to happen.

I probably would have had two patients die in the last month alone without PubMed. Because of the peer reviewed articles I found on some rare diseases, confirming their diagnosis, and specialized treatment modalities, they are alive. #Medsky

The Trump administration has stopped funding of PubMed, not considering a vital service.

Your doctor will not know the newest information that affects your health. This will cost lives.
drvantilburg.bsky.social
My point is it’s a vital service. Any delay in communicating latest scientific findings as a problem for patient care. Particularly bc catch up will be slow.
drvantilburg.bsky.social
Yes but delaying the communication of science will have serious impacts. We can’t just catch up quickly after it opens. Particularly with so many people let go.

Did you know food allergies might actually start in the skin?

In a new mouse study, when food proteins were introduced into the gut at the same time as skin damage, the animals developed food allergies. 🐭🥜

Healthy skin = prevention of allergies

Skin Injury May Bring on Food Allergies
A Yale lab links skin inflammation to the development of food allergies via a skin-gut connection, suggesting clues to a little-understood immune reaction.

New study suggests physicians may lose skills of disease detection when using AI.

It may not matter if AI is always available. Sort of like losing the skill to read a map since Google maps is on every phone. Yet something to keep a close eye on!

🚨 A calorie is not just a calorie.

New trial finds that people eating minimally processed foods lost more weight and felt less hungry than those eating the same ultra-processed foods.

Processing matters. 🍎 > 🍩

Forever chemicals are tough to remove—but your gut might help.
💩 Mice with special gut bacteria cleared more PFAS from their bodies.
Human research is coming, but this gives new meaning to “trust your gut.”

Gender bias in kids’ TV 📺 hasn’t changed much in 60+ years.

👦Boys still shown as doers—leaders, action-takers
🧒girls are often the ones things happen to.

It’s not just about screen time, but who gets to drive the story.

Study: For 60 Years, Kids' TV Cast Boys As Doers And Girls As Passive
New research reveals that the language in kid’s TV is reinforcing harmful gender stereotypes, and that little has changed in 60 years.  In some cases, it’s getting worse.
