Absolutely. I was raised primarily by two very damaged women who were highly misanthropic with a special disgust for other women. Those were hard, weird years, but fortunately I'm still here and they're both gone.

I clearly don't remember enough about it. As a girl in the 70's, I do remember just accepting the sexism because at that time it was all considered so normal.

"Stranger" was one of my first SF books, all of which were loaned to me by my best friend's older brother (and my first loooove). I was intellectually gifted and emotionally stunted/overly sheltered and I remember loving it. That was almost 50 years ago, though. What did you hate about it?

My first RHPS experience was literally one of the most fundamental in my early life. "Wait, what?!? I'm NOT some kind of mutant?" I mean, I probably am, but not when it comes to sexuality...

*We've got to stop using sanitized words like "detention." These are kidnappings, and human beings are being imprisoned in concentration camps. "Detained" makes it sound like they've been stopped and asked to pose for a photo.

Speaking as a journalist (though not for those outlets), what the press owes us are accurate stories, told with sensitivity for the families of the kidnapped people who were killed.* Doing that right takes even more time in a climate where those in charge are compulsive liars and idiots.

Sure, the regime is kidnapping people off the streets to throw them in concentration camps and threatening the livelihoods of people and orgs that disagree with them whether or not they've broken any laws. But hey, you go ahead and concentrate on this. This is surely what's important right now.

Valid point. At the same time, there are some interesting discussions to be had about the degree to which even "moderate" conservatism has degraded into extremism over the past 4+ decades, but I just don't have the energy.
