I feel like I would use "con" and "conne" for the exact same reasons, if misogynie was the point other words come to mind
I don't know how spontaneously those words came out, so maybe they were more thought out than I feel
The context (rape allegations) could point to misogynie I guess

While it is the origin of the word, that knowledge is sparse IMHO. The male counterpart "con" is used just as much, if a French person wants to be misogynistic in an insult, other words would be used
Not a native English speaker, but "cunt" seems very similar to me in the countries that use it often

Yeah gender is mostly meaningless here, just like « sales » is an escalation rather than an actual description, « damn jerks » would reflect the general idea
