Yes, it probably depends on the type of good. If durable goods prices were falling, then people might delay purchases, but not groceries, etc.

True. But when people think the price of something will fall, they delay purchasing, which constricts consumer demand and slows growth. See Japan in the 1990’s. I am not saying that the US will experience deflation, only that we might not like the results if we did.
