As a momentary distraction in a time of tsouris, maybe someone can help me out with a recipe question. I'm rereading @hntdove.bsky.social's Time of Troubles . (If you haven't read it run right out and buy a copy. That way you'll be able to reread it down the road.)

Just finished @hntdove.bsky.social’s new masterpiece Powerless. Everyone too young to remember the Soviet Union should read it to learn. Everyone of every age should read it to remember why democracy matters.

Just finished @hntdove.bsky.social's new City in Chains. Another great read. Great writing. Great story. And thought-provoking.

The Department of Education is telling school districts that if they send more money to schools with more low income students they may lose their Federal funding. Wonder how they feel about the feds sending more money to low income states?

Just finished @hntdove.bsky.social's latest, Twice as Dead. The usual fantastic Turtledove writing. Not exactly Alternate History...well, maybe it is alternate Los Angeles history...very alternate.

A reminder quote from @hntdove.bsky.social's new Twice As Dead. "What helps the bad guys most is when the good guys sit on their hands. That's how the fylfot boys got to be what they were."

(I had to look it up too.)

The Federal Reserve is not as independent from the executive branch as we’d like to think. The NY Fed just cancelled this Thursday’s @aeacswep.bsky.social reception at #EEA2025 and withdrew from our summer fellowship program. Both support women and underrepresented groups in economics. #EconSky
