I'm continually surprised at how difficult Google makes it to build with or work with their products.

You've got to do this weird dance of setting up Google Cloud Platform Enterprise Mega Complicated API Account Project to use some API.

Elsewhere I can just go to my account and get an API key

A test of how seriously your firm is taking AI: when o-1 (& the new Gemini model) came out this week, were there assigned folks who immediately ran the model through your internal, validated, firm-specific benchmarks to see how useful it as? Did you update any plans or goals as a result?

Good idea or bad idea for #python static typing?

Did you know you can stream HTML chunks to the browser *out of order* and have them render in the correct places...WITHOUT JAVASCRIPT?
I mean, if you knew the tech involved existed, it's obvious in hindsight that you could do this, but I never considered it.

Cool hypothetical browser feature: the ability to ship embedding models and an in-built vector db so we can build client-side semantic search and other stuff!

I wonder how I compare to other ChatGPT users. According to the echoes chrome extension I have had 2,319 conversations. Though, back in October-ish I deleted around a thousand, so I've over 3000 conversations.

A good intro to forecasting. That's forecasting in the sense of predicting the future in any field, not just weather forecasting! I think I'd be pretty good at this (doesn't everyone?!?), I've just never found my way in to it.

I'm a US software developer and #layoffs in the industry make me nervous. On the other hand, extrapolating from our industry to the economy as a whole is not helping anyone! Layoffs are lower than they have been in decades!

I realize this isn't directly comparable, but after reading about Altman trying to raise trillions for chip making, it's funny to hear about the use funding $5b.

I don't have strong opinions on this, but Altman raising trillions for AI chips has got to be a punch in the gut for doomers. w4t.pw/e9

Learning Rust, and one thing that I keep thinking about is that all of the descriptions defining it as a "systems programming" language kind of do it a disservice...it seems quite appropriate to many domains!

Learning #rust with the rust book and #ChatGPT is the best experience I've ever had picking up a new language.
