As a non citizen, I always use my passport on domestic flights anyway, but I've noticed most people don't.

Never learned with phonics growing up, but my kids certainly did growing up in the Spanish system. As its specific to each language, it causes problems when learning another one - my kids came up with some amusing versions of English words.

Your statement makes absolutely no sense. The fact that he doesn't know what phonics is kinda proves the point that it's not a requirement for reading. I, like many others growing up in the UK/Ireland in 60s/70s learned to read by "whole word" practice. And we are pretty literate.
