For those new to BlueSky and interested in FanGraphs writers -- or those who aren't, making this an odd choice -- I put together a FanGraphs starter pack of writers/editors who currently are staffers or contributors to the site.

Yeah, I shoudl have been clearer about that!

I didn't mean to use them ahistorically! But I've never liked the current Phillies colors.

Do I dare ask what ass success is?
dszymborski.fangraphs.com
I do hope the Phillies take the hint and just keep wearing the powder-blue-and-maroon as the primary uniform for now on.

People might say that the Red Sox or Cubs had baseball's best curse, but I still think the S-Tier baseball curse is the Hanshin Tigers being cursed by Colonel Sanders.

I gotta say, it feels like the schemes of Shredder and Krang to destroy the Ninja Turtles have a higher success rate than using Clayton Kershaw in relief in the playoffs.

As someone who does a lot of predictive modeling, I really appreciate the Wrigley fans clearly chanting for principal component analysis.

me at the start of every october vs. me at the end of every october
Baby Jayson Werth, glasses and all. Jayson Werth, except now he looks like a wizard or a lumberjack or a prepper who can live for three years on nothing but bark and cicadas

The archive was always a dumpster fire too -- it's always been impossible to see the *many* things I did unless I know exactly which one I was looking for!

The reviews are in: critics are hailing OOPSY as Paul Thomas Anderson's most entertaining film yet. No, wait, that is "One Battle After Another." Good work, @dszymborski.fangraphs.com

The initial charge was fairly easy - we were all basically extremely confident about guilty the second we got into the jury room. But it was the finding that got us. We all thought the defendant acted terribly, but just not the degree of terribleness of the added risks.

Yeah, like I can say that there's a strong possibility the White Sox will suck, but I have the luxury of being able to buttress that with an underlying median projection and a range of uncertainty based on empirical data!
dszymborski.fangraphs.com
Yeah, it was an additional finding on a relatively dangerous police chase.

Since Bayesian probability is such a big part of my life, it definitely drives me nuts, though it was the answer I expected while penning out the Q for the group. Thankfully, another juror made a great point from the language of the statute that turned the tide.

Yeah, I wish it didn't happen during PLAYOFFS, but like in February, but it was a good experience and makes me feel a little bit better about humanity, if just for today!

In the end, the 4 agreed that they had reasonable doubts about serious. Those of us in the 8 then took a step back to make sure the 4 were comfortable and did not feel pressured by us unduly, and that they could switch in good conscience.

It was an interesting jury room debate. Basically *the* point we all came to very quickly was whether X thing that we all thought was bad was "significant" or "serious" risk. We were 8-4 for significant, and we asked a Q to confirm there was nothing definitionally to clear up ambiguity.
dszymborski.fangraphs.com
Now that I think of it, I guess it makes me a much easier juror than average to gauge a convincing argument for. We had some references to "people who work with numbers and probability" in the closing. It's not really hard to see what makes me tick, for good or ill.
dszymborski.fangraphs.com
(It was also one of the crucial points I was thinking of at the time as the case was wrapping up)
dszymborski.fangraphs.com
The defense attorney talked in the closing about the difference between "strong possibility" and "significant or remote possibility" (def of substantial risk on Ohio law) and mentioned "those of you who work with numbers and probability" which definitely was a good arg to make with me.

I think the other jury members would have rightfully beaten me to death if I tried that!
dszymborski.fangraphs.com
I find the whole concept amusing, just not in a serious way.

Pin this and next time you'll be home before lunch.
My friend Dan is holding a piece of paper that reads "Chef Boyardee is here".

I did get a Roman Anthony ROY question, so it's definitely something that *could* have happened in Dayton if the lawyer were a Reds fan.

Though maybe if he were a Reds fan he'd already hate me lol
