absolutely sent by "the opinion pages of the Daily Telegraph," "neighbourhood Facebook groups" and "the speeches of MPs such as Nigel Farage" being presented as a "broad cross-section of public discussion"

we bought new hangers and now my laundry is a clumsy early-eighties TV metaphor for racial harmony

So this has proven to be my wife's very favourite Christmas present. She has been pecking people and snickering in genuine, childlike glee.

Now, Sorayama has a rather fun trademark for his art - because his images are of robots and cyborgs, he incorporates his name into the art as though it were engraved into the subject's surface, like a make or model.

Here it is (rather blurrily, sorry) in the image from the Shadowrun adventure.

It's by legendary illustrator Hajime Sorayama, who among other things has been known for his "sexy robot/cyborg ladies" art for decades.

The front cover art incorporates a high-quality digital image of Mercurial herself, a naked woman with silvery cyberarms and -legs. It's a stunning piece, and definitely not the sort of thing that RPG companies can normally afford to commission.

Just been reminded of Maria Mercurial, in the early eponymous Shadowrun adventure.

If you're not familiar, it's a classic story in which the players act as bodyguards to a cybernetically-augmented rock star, and discover that she has been maliciously addicted to immersive stims by her shitty agent.

I'm just a bit baffled by this; this was happening like six years ago? It's not news??
December 20, 2025 at 10:08 PM
This is from a thread from six months ago, that got a bunch of response then and was revived a few days ago (for rather sad reasons). It's done well for me, by Bluesky standards, but it's still a little strange seeing just 1500 likes on a post with around 800 reposts.

Fascinated by how The Ratio manifests on this site.

Back on the Cursed Site, the replies:retweets:likes ratio was pretty reliably somewhere between 1:5:20 and 1:10:100 (reliably enough that tweets whose engagement fell well outside those ratios were highlighted as examples of Bad Tweets).

Lots of people reposting/quoting the top tweet, but the shot definitely needs the chaser. Obviously Harlequin knows AI can't translate, but they'll use it to force translators to cut their fees.

if i had a pound for every comedy glam-rock musical that came to movie theatres in the mid-70s based on classic gothic horror stories but making a serious point about social issues i'd have two pounds, which isn't a lot but etc. etc.

But from the written description, it should be a small person who appears both old and childlike, and from the crown of whose head light shines:

Because of the way the whole figure seems to flicker and shift, and the candle snuffer it carries under one arm, it's often depicted as a literal animated candle:

Yes and no. It has a "clear jet of light" springing from its head:

I found this while processing some photos in my phone. Not sure if I already sent it.

anyway, I'm definitely not the first person to make the comparison, but I think I've figured out how the heptapod language first came about

so I've just seen this ad for a new, jokey package for Overleaf (a free-licence LaTeX editor), which adds a coffee stain to your scientific document, sparing you the need to add it "manually," and it reminded me of a shower thought a while back:

a clinical trial is something you conduct to see if a drug is safe, not something you conduct to "build evidence" that a drug should be banned.
