Add to all of this what AI, phone dependency, and lack of writing/drawing is doing in terms of cognitive decline, attention span deficits, digital dementia to young people (hs teacher here). Easy, stolen, & generic isn’t good for anyone in the long term.

From the way I read it (maybe wrong), I saw J-F as an observer- neutral almost. His fascination with Gabriel is partly from his ability to “act”.. hence living vicariously through him. J-F feels trapped but excited by Gabriel because he can end him which is the real turn on for him.
