Are you suggesting 23 was an obvious year to sign Obed to an extension? He started the year coming off a back injury in 22 and struggled a lot to prove he earned even a starting spot throughout the year. Probably a good bet but still a bit risky for a GM who can't shake being pegged as injury-philic

Hmm, he turns 25 this month. I was under the impression Slot 31 is only available to players 24 years and younger during the league year. Presumably just terminate his contract at that point?

What the heck is a semi guaranteed contract? Is that in the CBA or MLS Rules and Regulations or something? Am I understanding it properly; Yu is signed for the first team, but midseason the club can slot 31 him which would free up his international slot?

If this sale gives the club more flexibility in offering Obed a TAM deal; is there flexibility on length of contracts as the league navigates the transition to the calendar switch? Extending Obed through the 27/28 season feels like a good timeline but not if the contract terminates on Dec 31st 2028.

Yeah, I assumed raises would eat away at some of the starting GAM, and that we would offer senior contracts to a couple guys on the supplemental roster.
I suspect this winter we are only going to add league/reserve minimum (or close to that) depth players. Selling Obed is increasingly important.

$2.162m in GAM before player raises. Spending ≥$400k on anyone who might not be starting is not good business right now.
