Judging by the names on the supportive comments, there's a few nationalists in agreement. Vile, ignorant, oblivious - how soon they forget their past!

That article is absolutely atrocious - sensationalist, click-baity, filled with assumptions, vague accusations and implied scenarios - the journalistic integrity of a Red Top.

Hey Bailey, I'd suggest you read the room, get a grasp of how small Ireland is and stop commenting on this man's very current disappearance as if it was devised for your entertainment. Ffs, absolute gowl-like behaviour.

Does that negate my point though?

There were more people working there when it was a hotel. Why will no-one accept that this is a loss to the community? You can see with your own eyes. It's a tiny, desolate village that just isn't suited to be an IPAS centre. Also, not everyone is Christian & should not be shamed by you if they are!
March 28, 2025 at 2:25 PM
That's a very idealistic way of viewing it. If you're getting 38.80 a week, food all provided, where or why would they spend it? In the pharmacy? A €5 for a latte?not when it's 12% of your weekly income! Will the B&B host Communions/Family events too? Can you accept its a loss to the village?
March 28, 2025 at 2:22 PM
Look, you absolutely know this place would never be refused, floating it as a possibility is a feeble attempt to imply that there is any considerations given as to where they place people - if they cared, they wouldn't have them encamped at Electric Picnic. They don't care.
March 28, 2025 at 12:46 PM
Again, I'd like you to provide instances where a fully functioning hotel, that has already hosted Ukrainians, has been recently updated and in good repair has been refused? That's not going to happen and you well know it.
March 28, 2025 at 11:45 AM
They get €38.80 a week. The area has now lost its only hotel & all the tourist spend that came with it. If you're talking economics then it's a big hit for the area. As for community - I'd like to hear suggestions for such a desolate, Irish Speaking place. Sometimes areas just don't work for IPAS.
March 28, 2025 at 11:42 AM
How many centres were rejected on that basis?? I'd hazard absolutely none that wasn't borne out of external pressures.
March 28, 2025 at 11:19 AM
That's a lovely statement, but how an IPAS centre can create employment and prosperity for anyone other than the (non local) owner? The residents are unable to work as they haven't been processed, even if they could, there are no jobs in Carna. You can logically assess this if you knew the area.
March 28, 2025 at 11:12 AM
This IS EXACTLY how you lose support. What a cretinous response.
March 28, 2025 at 10:58 AM
Do you see how cloak & dagger behaviour doesn't instill trust though, right? If you know your actions are fuelling right wing groups then why the hell do they do it? Also, there is no reason the hotel won't qualify - none.
March 28, 2025 at 10:57 AM
The Hotel in question has been housing Ukrainians for the past 3 yrs, there is no doubt it will qualify as an IPAS centre. Paranoia exists because the Government won't be open with people, they're fuelling this and allowing extremists to gain traction.

*now impossible

Yes, he's always been an ass but people have different lines in the sand, at this point, he has crossed all moral boundaries, where its not impossible to defend him. Going postal at people driving 23/24 cars doesn't help anyone.
March 27, 2025 at 4:23 PM
Ah now, he's been a gobshite forever but has hit the accelerator big time the last few months. I'll still give grace to a 251. After that, you're taking a risk. I've no skin in this game, no EV here, nor have I considered one. Just allowing for people who had deposits to lose etc
March 27, 2025 at 2:19 PM
To be fair, this could have been ordered months ago. The lag time for Tesla in Ireland is long. I give grace for 251 and older...if I see a 252 however...m
March 27, 2025 at 1:49 PM
A bit of grace needed here. Most new cars are ordered a few months back. People risk losing deposits and can't take the hit. Now, if you see a 252 Tesla in July, feel free to gesture wildly 🖕
Can't imagine the resale is too good on them currently and may become hard to insure.

Unfortunately, as with all children, you have to get down to their eye-level, explain slowly & clearly the options they have & the repercussions of their choices. That way, when they do ultimately set the world on fire, you can remind them of your conversation, even better when it's televised!
March 5, 2025 at 11:55 AM
It's mostly tech, but, worth a look through the list. For me it was Amazon, Kindle, Audible, Instagram etc. Do what you can, don't let great be the enemy of good etc
March 4, 2025 at 7:04 PM
Yep, the US is gone. Sold for parts to Russia. I never thought I would see this day. Not a whiff of a rebellion either - are you all asleep over there?
February 28, 2025 at 11:26 PM
I wholeheartedly agree, but shaming ads selling fuel in a crisis is not a good look. You can make your point at another time when fossil fuel is not the only thing keeping vulnerable people warm & fed.
