Trump keeps saying he needs to send federal agents in to protect Chicago because the Police aren't doing the job.

You know what makes it hard for our city's brave police officers to do their jobs?

Trump's agents throwing tear gas at them.

Several officers could be seen rubbing their eyes, squinting, and struggling to remain standing on October 4.

We have the Insurrection Act for a reason—

But it's not so a President with 34 felonies can ignore court orders and punish cities he doesn't like with military intimidation.

Especially not when the courts are telling him his claims of insurrection are "untethered to the facts."

Trump "We have an Insurrection Act for a reason. If I had to enact it, I'd to that ... if courts were holding us up or governors or mayors were holding us up, sure, I'd do that."

We have not called for this. We do not need this.

Donald Trump is pitting sovereign states against one another in effort to consolidate his own power at the expense of our constitutional rights—

An egregious abuse of power.

He is pushing us closer to authoritarianism.

This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.
duckworth.senate.gov
Trump is federalizing the National Guard in Illinois against our will—

An affront to American values and an extreme abuse of our military.

He’s terrorizing citizens in attempt to expand his power and punish opponents.

That’s just not who we are.

It’s authoritarian.
duckworth.senate.gov
An American President is intentionally hurting Americans to score cheap political points.

This is not normal.
Russ Vought on X: $2.1 billion in Chicago infrastructure projects—specifically the Red Line Extension and the Red and Purple Modernization Project—have been put on hold to ensure funding is not flowing via race-based contracting. More info to come soon from @USDOT.

With ACA tax credits, a 60-year-old couple making $85,000 pays ~$7,000 for their annual premium.

Without ACA tax credits, the same couple could be forced to pay nearly $30,000.

I know Republicans only speak "billionaire"—but middle-class families can't afford this.
duckworth.senate.gov
You're right, Donald. We’re not stupid.

When you broke your promise to protect Medicaid by enacting a $1 trillion cut, you sold out hospitals and health coverage for millions.

Democrats just want you to keep your promise.

Repeal the cuts.
Trump Truth social post: “I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, he of Project 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrats Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent. I can’t believe the Radical Left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity. They are not stupid people, so maybe this is their way of wanting to, quietly and quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Using American cities as "training grounds for our military" isn’t just intrinsically un-American, it's unconstitutional.

More like a tin-pot dictator than a President every day.
atrupar.com
Trump to top military officials: "I told Pete, we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military. National Guard, but our military. Because we're going into Chicago very soon. That's a big city with an incompetent governor. Stupid governor."
duckworth.senate.gov
Even Donald Trump once said, "a shutdown falls on the President’s lack of leadership."

Well, choosing to shut down rather than save health care is one of the biggest failures in leadership imaginable.
duckworth.senate.gov
Fact: Undocumented immigrants are not even eligible to purchase the ACA coverage we’re trying to protect.

Republicans voted to hike costs and take health care away from American citizens.

Including their own constituents.

Read that again. Over and over.
duckworth.senate.gov
If you live in these states, your ACA premiums are about to jump:

SD - Up 235%
LA - Up 150%
WV - Up 387%
WY - Up 382%
TN - Up 320%
MS - Up 314%
AK - Up 346%

Republicans are fighting to make sure this happens to their own constituents.

Trump continues threatening our state with his unwarranted, unwanted and unjust military deployments.

This dangerous pattern of politicizing our military and forcing our troops to intimidate their fellow Americans in their communities is as un-American as it gets.

Full stop.
Trump administration asks for 100 'military troops' to deploy in Illinois to protect ICE, Pritzker says
Gov. JB Pritzker said the Illinois National Guard obtained a memo that the Department of Homeland Security sent to the Defense Department, which sought to request 100 military personnel for Illinois.

If this deeply degrading, wasteful and dangerous stunt proved anything, it’s that the best thing Hegseth can do to strengthen our military is resign in disgrace.

Immediately.
duckworth.senate.gov
Straight from the horse's mouth.

Trump knows damn well this shutdown is on him. He's the President—he has the power to keep the government open AND keep health care premiums from skyrocketing.
duckworth.senate.gov
Using tear gas, pepper spray and more against Americans exercising their First Amendment rights is deeply disturbing.

I’m in contact with local officials and I urge Illinoisans stay calm, stay safe and document what you can.

We will hold the Trump Administration accountable.

On Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day, we honor those who've lost a loved one while serving our nation.

Their tremendous sacrifices—and the loss they continue to carry—will never be forgotten, and we can never stop working to provide them with the support they deserve.

For his own vanity, Pete Hegseth is pulling our military leaders away from their missions around the world—

At great cost to American taxpayers and our national security.

In every way, this abrupt, unprecedented meeting is too high a price.

I’m demanding answers.
Ahead of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s abrupt, needless and wasteful speech to much of our nation’s top military leadership on Tuesday, U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI)—members of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC)—pressed the Secretary in a letter on the serious risks that such a gathering poses to security—on top of the monstrous cost to American taxpayers as Republicans march us toward a government shutdown. Los Angeles. D.C. Memphis. Portland.

Our troops didn't sign up to intimidate their fellow Americans and be pawns in Trump's political theater.

Shame on Republicans for being complicit in this abuse of our military.

If you’re worried about losing your health care, apparently Trump has a message for you:
Politico: Democrats are demanding Republicans negotiate a bipartisan stopgap spending measure. Among their asks is for the GOP to extend certain Affordable Care Act subsidies, which were expanded by Congress in 2021 and are due to sunset at the end of the year.

President Donald Trump on Thursday blamed Democrats for making “unserious and ridiculous” demands, foreshadowing what is likely to be the go-to talking point should neither side blink ahead of the Tuesday night deadline.

“He read all the shit they’re asking for, and he said, ‘on second thought, go fuck yourself,’” the White House official said.

Republicans are marching us toward a shutdown—

And the most unqualified SecDef is summoning our top military leaders from around the globe on the taxpayer's dime...

So that he, of all people, could lecture them on the warrior ethos.

Completely and utterly ridiculous.

Your health care bill is about to explode.

The notices will start arriving next month.

A $7,000 bill could jump to $24,000.

Democrats are fighting to stop this. Republicans are fighting to guarantee your costs go up.

We need to fix this. Now.

Political differences are inevitable. But here in America, violence is never, ever the answer.

Everyone should be able to condemn the deadly attack against the ICE facility in Dallas.

Your Big Ugly Bill imposed the largest cuts to health care in U.S. history, including over $900 billion in Medicaid cuts. Rural hospitals are already shutting down and reducing services as a result.

Tell Trump to stop hiding behind Truth Social and sit down with Democrats.

Senate Republicans
@SenateGOP
(https://x.com/SenateGOP)Democrats voted to cut $50B from rural hospitals last week, so we know they don’t actually care about access to health care.

They just want to fight the President, even if they shut down the government in the process.

TACO Tuesday in the Trump White House. Trump refuses to even sit down with Democrats on health care and lowering costs.
