I'm like 1983, but different.
Software dev and security nerd, building tools for journalists and whistleblowers.
If you wait long enough, you might also get a free fireworks show.

Ooh, I've working on something just like this to share with folks using various blogging platforms. I'm eager to take a look at your project.

I think there a few app options for live streaming that allow various types of private live streaming (e.g., a private link, etc), in case you don't want to share with the whole planet at once.

Most of the big video hosting sites have docs specifically for setting that up on a phone.

I guess some people read 1984 and thought,
"Wow, think of the convenience!"

My immediate thought was the Werner Herzog movie where a penguin wanders off to certain doom.

What I didn't expect in 2026 is that the surveillance apparatus described in 1984 would feel so quaint, almost cute by comparison.

Do they all get bingo cards to track what amendments they're currently violating?

Frankly, some of my most valuable cybersecurity skills came from working at a help desk in college. No tech issue is solved until you abandon assumptions and meet people where they are, even when there's a massive breadth of misunderstandings, misconceptions, or the willingness to admit to them.

Yes! It's always been the hardest part of my career.
On one side: pros who parrot "you must define your threat model first!" best practices.
On the other: users w/ no understanding of bad actors, how the internet works, or n-tier privacy implications.
There's a vast gap betwn theory and reality.

You can wear an overcoat on an upright fendered bike like this. It's maybe not the best thing for the overcoat, but I was among hordes of commuters who did it in Berlin and Copenhagen.

In America, there are at least a half dozen of us 😅

Her math checks out. As an American, I think my deductible is basically $100k at this point.

I was hanging around Berlin when this video came out (9+ years ago!) and indeed, as tongue-and-cheek as this music video is, there's a lot of genuine sentiment here.

I'm just gonna cite this incident to my state reps, in case they buy the lobbyist spin that "nobody cares about privacy".

I've heard a bunch of performers also just canceled their shows at the Kennedy Center, probably because art can't flourish under "woke". 🤔

We've all been in a "the first one is free" pusher stage all this time, and the monetization is only going to get more absurd and way more expensive.

But I look forward to seeing how many truly f*cked up product placements I can prompt out of it.

There must be a ton of people doing this scrubbing. In a less corrupt era, we'd be flipping those people for evidence, all the way up the chain.

Hamilton and Madison must be reeling in their graves about where our checks-and-balances are falling short.

I hope it's less horrific to hear that an old term, used at least since the 1970s, in a lot of contexts for planning--e.g, hospital scheduling, entitlement to benefits, or (since it's used for student enrollment), financial aid determination.

I bet a pivot table is just the tool to help sort out these niches 😅

Could it be that the collection of data has changed the behavior?

"Well, I would buy this gown, but not if I have to log it in the spreadsheet"...

Just a different style of formidable.
