I’m glad! After commenting I did scroll through your posts and saw that there were good things happening compared to how things have been, so that’s great! My comment may have also been self-serving, because I feel like the (warranted) fear/anxiety makes me feel tired rather than motivated to act

I followed you on here after thinking about you in the Pockets Full of Soup days, but it’s sad that you seem to be in a really dark place. When do you think it’s the right idea to just log off? To focus on local community efforts and less on the whole world? None of my business, just worried for ya

I listen and savor the moments where you dig into stuff! Also I’m scared because I feel like you said in a recent interview you want to get away from writing the type of books you have been…but you’re the only one doing it 🥲 I should sub to Bloomberg but it’s pretty expensive. I’ll take another look

This is actually the first thing I’ve read of your’s and even though I disagreed, I really enjoyed it! But I do feel like games writing tends to devalue the “game” in video games fairly often so I felt the urge to assert my feelings lol. Sad that I’m finding your writing just as you’re leaving!

While you make a good point, the enemy AI and game-feel of TLOU2 is too good to be relegated to just serving the story. You say it’s not fun, but I heartily disagree. I’m also a gameplay-first kinda guy, so take that for what it’s worth. It’s still a piece of entertainment that’s designed to be fun.

I’m a subscriber, so I mean it in good faith: I found the review a bit insubstantial. I’ve played all but 30 min of the first game and with a title that seems so different, I want to read about its gameplay intricacies. The review felt overly general. Maybe hours-long video essays have spoiled me?

True, though you could turn on the auto attack stuff to remove most of the action component but it sounds like you want more action and less strategy. I think it’s very committed to being a strategic combat system rather than a hodgepodge non-commitment as you said. Shame it’s not to your liking.

I’d argue that they did choose ATB over action combat and that’s why you’re spending time in menus. You can technically play in real time and rely on shortcuts but you’ll be ignoring most of your abilities. And swapping characters feels amazing and makes battles way more dynamic. Hard disagree.
