I’m super excited about what we can achieve using light microscopy for human connectomics and projectomics and would discuss with anyone interested!

There are so many facets of a connectomics pipeline to work on — histology, imaging, analysis, automation and more.

Our group at the Allen Institute is recruiting a technician and postdoc to work on light microscopy-based connectomics. Please DM me or share with anyone you think may be interested in this NIH BRAIN CONNECTS funded project.

E11 Bio is excited to unveil PRISM technology for mapping brain wiring with simple light microscopes. Today, brain mapping in humans and other mammals is bottlenecked by accurate neuron tracing. PRISM uses molecular ID codes and AI to help neurons trace themselves.

With @megyounger.bsky.social's lab, et al., we present the first connectomics work in the disease-vector mosquito Aedes aegypti, revealing how its brain is wired to detect host cues.

Diagrams (top-left) of an adult female Ae. aegypti head and (bottom) a basiconic sensillum on maxillary palp (gray) which contain dendritic processes of olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs), including CO2-sensitive Gr3-expressing OSNs. OSN axons project centrally to the antennal lobes in the brain. On the right is a volumetric rendering of the mosquito brain neuropils including the antennal lobes (light blue) (Heinze et al., 2021; Matthews et al., 2019). Scale bar 100 μm.

Worm25 has been absolutely fantastic so far-congrats to everyone for your amazing work! One striking change in the talks this year is it seems like the consensus number of neurons in the adult hermaphrodite has returned to 302 after a few years at 300. Is CAN back?

I may not be at #worm25 but the real discussion endures

The number of C. elegans neurons must always be contested, unknowable, liminal in order to maintain humility in our efforts to list, label, and categorize nature, which is indifferent to our schemas.
