A good historical perspective in this video on “failing to punish the confederacy”. The argument is that it was that what today we’d call the centrists betraying what today we’d call the progressives that got us where we are today.
A very interesting strategic point made in this video - by venerating the founders and washing away their sins as “just how people were at the time”, we are choosing to give the right a significant advantage in the fight over the future of the US. History will look back at the Russian invasion of Crimea in 2014 as the start of WWWIII. Just like WWII, democracies were too hesitant to stand up to the authoritarian. Their weakness was seen and exploited until they were forced into war. We don’t want war, but better to enter on our own terms.

I remember telling my congressman (Moulton) back in the day that ICE needed to be disbanded and getting some “centrist” response about why they needed to be kept. Not a good look now is it? The patterns should be obvious but there’s a failure of imagination & an “it could never happen here” attitude
